"I went with Independent Energy Hawaii because they assured me they would never bring in outside help. They assured me that EVERYTHING was made in-house. The opposite was true. My roof eventually began to leak at nearly every opening. My cathedral ceiling in the formal living room was damaged by water that didn't come from the attic. I contacted them two months ago, and they took down the panels. My house isn't getting fixed because they are preoccupied with a blame game with the subcontractor's insurance company. This kind of thing is why I initially expressed skepticism about the use of subcontractors. The subcontractor was not hired by me, but by Independent Energy. Resolve the issue with my home and we can discuss the other company later. From the start, this setup has been nothing but trouble. Damage to more than half of my roof necessitates a full replacement, and this is on top of the need to remove and replace the cathedral ceiling in my formal living room and the insulation in my attic. It is getting colder as the repairs are put off indefinitely. Penetrating the shingles to reinstall the solar system when the shingles are cold has the potential to crack the shingles, which could lead to the roof leaking again, as is well known to anyone familiar with roofing. In addition to not being able to generate power, my banked kWh with EverSource is being used to pay for current bills. I really wish I had chosen a different provider." - Thomas L.
"That's why I needed a price estimate for a ground mount. Someone tells me I can't do something, but they haven't even set foot on my property. It's clear you don't want to do the work. I have a spot picked out, and there are no objections from the city. Thanks for nothing." - Maverick J.
"If you plan on keeping the system for more than a year, you should look elsewhere. Purchasing solar panels is a wise financial move, but my previous work has been with Independent Energy. The setup procedure was tediously slow (signed up in December, and got running in July). The company sent me begging for signatures in the township to get into the program they promised me at the signing. Even though the salesman had assured me that I would be able to monitor both my energy production and consumption once the system was up and running, I was only able to do the latter. A worker was sent out to explain everything a few months after the system went live; he even left me his email and phone number in case I had any further questions or issues. In light of my current difficulties, he has not responded to my recent emails or phone calls." - Elias K.
"The manager represents the company's culture of corruption. Don't use their products or services! The inverters in both of their generators stopped working just five years into the 10-year warranty period. My monthly electric bill was creeping up by the hundreds, but they kept saying they'd fix the equipment and cover the cost. They took five months to fix the inverters and then wouldn't cover the cost difference. They've lied to me, and now they won't even return my calls." - Joshua L.
"Do not hire this business. Do not put your trust in them. They did nothing to help me while my system failed to generate electricity for 8 months, and for the better part of 5 of those months, they even placed the blame on me. DO NOT USE!" - Nolan F.
"In every aspect, Independent Energy has surpassed our expectations. They were a terrific resource for us throughout the first stages of our investigation, and we could see they took employee safety and their job seriously when we visited one of their locations. The installation proceeded well and swiftly, and the fact that they wore safety belts the whole time they were up there offered me piece of mind. They ensured we got all the information we need and explained how the system worked." - Leo E.
"Independent Energy Hawaii did a fantastic job on our solar installation, and we couldn't be happier with the results. Everyone I've talked to has been extremely helpful and kind in taking the time to explain everything to me. Among the three companies I contacted for quotes, they were the most proactive in setting up an in-person consultation to go over the quote and the system they offered. It's nice to not have to worry about anything because they handled everything (including working with HECO and obtaining the necessary permits). Since we installed our system, we have received two electric bills. The initial cost was $53! The price of the second was $41! Really, I can't express how happy I am. Even better, we filed our taxes and will be receiving a sizable refund thanks to solar energy rebates. The cost of going solar is significant, but the returns on that investment will last for decades. If only I had set up sooner! Don't put off contacting the helpful staff at Independent Energy Hawaii any longer. To have the assurance that our batteries would keep us going for a while in the event of a grid outage is a huge relief." -Julian T.
"Because of their affordable rates and commitment to environmental sustainability, we decided to go with independent energy. Their crew size surprised me given that they were installing 30 panels, but they worked quickly and neatly and did not seem to make any mistakes. Whenever we contacted them with inquiries or worries, they promptly and reassuringly responded. I can now rest assured that I will once again have access to my own power source in the event that I experience any problems with my system." - Luke B.
"Since the initial greeting all the way through the installation of the 28 panels and 3 batteries, it has been one of the best experiences I have had with the company. Everything from my inquiries about tax rebates and financing to those about the batteries and the installation process was promptly addressed by the team. This is an excellent business with helpful employees. The level of care they took during the installation was something I noticed and appreciated more than I thought I would. No messes were ever made on the job, and the crew always left the house in pristine condition when they went home at night. The finer points are what really count. Extremely qualified individuals. When looking for a solar energy company in Hawaii, look no further than Independent Energy Hawaii. A heartfelt "thank you" for the superb service and result." - Hudson U.
"There's a good reason this firm has received 5 stars. My new 10kW solar system with batteries was installed in under 2 days. Yes, everything is operational, and it's functioning splendidly. As a former licensed electrician, I can say that I have never seen better work. It's been 2 months since I signed the contract. As promised, they handled getting the necessary permits and building codes in place, and then they installed my system. Their entire staff is helpful, friendly, and expertly trained. I am so happy with my decision to go with Independent Energy." - Matthew V.
