"I went with Independent Energy Hawaii because they assured me they would never bring in outside help. They assured me that EVERYTHING was made in-house. The opposite was true. My roof eventually began to leak at nearly every opening. My cathedral ceiling in the formal living room was damaged by water that didn't come from the attic. I contacted them two months ago, and they took down the panels. My house isn't getting fixed because they are preoccupied with a blame game with the subcontractor's insurance company. This kind of thing is why I initially expressed skepticism about the use of subcontractors. The subcontractor was not hired by me, but by Independent Energy. Resolve the issue with my home and we can discuss the other company later. From the start, this setup has been nothing but trouble. Damage to more than half of my roof necessitates a full replacement, and this is on top of the need to remove and replace the cathedral ceiling in my formal living room and the insulation in my attic. It is getting colder as the repairs are put off indefinitely. Penetrating the shingles to reinstall the solar system when the shingles are cold has the potential to crack the shingles, which could lead to the roof leaking again, as is well known to anyone familiar with roofing. In addition to not being able to generate power, my banked kWh with EverSource is being used to pay for current bills. I really wish I had chosen a different provider." - Thomas L.

"If you plan on keeping the system for more than a year, you should look elsewhere. Purchasing solar panels is a wise financial move, but my previous work has been with Independent Energy. The setup procedure was tediously slow (signed up in December, and got running in July). The company sent me begging for signatures in the township to get into the program they promised me at the signing. Even though the salesman had assured me that I would be able to monitor both my energy production and consumption once the system was up and running, I was only able to do the latter. A worker was sent out to explain everything a few months after the system went live; he even left me his email and phone number in case I had any further questions or issues. In light of my current difficulties, he has not responded to my recent emails or phone calls." - Elias K.

"The manager represents the company's culture of corruption. Don't use their products or services! The inverters in both of their generators stopped working just five years into the 10-year warranty period. My monthly electric bill was creeping up by the hundreds, but they kept saying they'd fix the equipment and cover the cost.
