SunPower online reputation
SunPower offers high-quality solar energy solutions for homes, businesses, and utilities. They work hard to make their products reliable and provide great service. SunPower's knowledgeable and friendly staff, affordable prices, and high-quality products have won customers over. Clients have praised their competence and responsiveness in most testimonials. Online reviews of SunPower, a household solar energy brand, show their commitment to customer satisfaction."The quality of their customer service is shockingly low. Unfortunately, I had to pay for both electricity and the solar lease during the four months that it took to fix a problem with the equipment. Sunpower did not provide any compensation or even offer to cover any overages. The latest electricity bill arrived today, December 26. Even though the system reports no problems and apparently is functioning normally, it will take 10 days for them to investigate. The plan was to produce extra power and cancel out the cost of utility consumption. This has not been the case so far." - Roberto T.
"Based on my current experience, I am decreasing my rating by one star. Three of my solar panels are only producing 25% as much as other solar panels in the same location, so I called customer service to complain. An hour later, I was told that everything is fine with the solar system (and that it is meeting the required daily average). This is utter hogwash. Just plain unmotivated and uninterested in their customers. I rate this as an O. Avoid dealing with this organization at all costs." - Ramon L.
"After signing, you'll hand over tens of thousands of dollars and nobody will ever check in to see how things are going. A second-hand car salesman displays more care than these people. Within a month of installation, your system will start acting up. Nothing but a surprise electric bill and a broken inverter await you if you don't keep an eye on your system. If there is an issue, SunPower will not inform you. They may take your call seriously and inform you that a work order has been placed. There is no further progress possible. That's it, I mean it. They might get in touch with you again if you threaten to stop paying the solar bill. They will not compensate you for the two bills you've received if something breaks and you have to have it fixed (one from solar and one from the utility company). It's inevitable that you'll feel remorse. In spite of having my system activated in May of 2022, it has never reached its full potential. Each month, in addition to my regular electric bill, I have received a solar bill for $217. At long last, on January 5th, 2023, someone came out to declare the problem resolved. SunPower informed me that they could only compensate me with $300 for my trouble. They are charlatans peddling false hope." - Miles J.
"Especially on weekends, the app is very buggy. It freezes up, and you never know what the solar is making. The cost-saving mode only works from 5 to 8 p.m., and it doesn't work on weekends. My SCE time of day plan is from 4 to 9 p.m. My friends took Tesla and don't have any of these problems. I was wrong to think that going with a solar company that charged more would be better. Oh, one more thing: you can't call customer service on the weekends anymore. And if you call during the week, be ready to wait a long time and for them to take days to solve your problem." - Liam M.
"As far as they're concerned, customer service isn't a priority. It's been a year since my sunpower system stopped functioning and I've been trying to get it fixed. Unfortunately, the original installer has gone out of business, and Sunpower is unable to assist with repairs at this time. Their only recommendation is that you contact a local installer from a list provided on their website. Local installers refuse to assist with repairing a system installed by a competitor unless additional panels are added." - Lewis K.
"Ten years ago, we upgraded our old house with 21 SunPower solar panels. Even though the array was only supposed to supply 90% of our electrical needs, they performed at or above their rated capacity the entire time. We installed 23 SunPower panels on our new home when we moved there last year, and we are once again receiving full power from them. In order to match the output, we would have needed 30–50% more panels in our array, and we anticipate a faster decline in efficiency compared to our friends who used competing lower-cost panels. SunPower will be our go-to if we decide to do this again." - Milton C.
"I've been leasing a Sunpower solar array for more than four years. Based on the utility company rates in place when I installed them, I have saved more than $300 in cash every year for the past four years. In the meantime, rates have risen, increasing my annual savings. Gigantic smiles and applause for the system and the business! Within the span of the lease, I expect to save more than $6,000. In the end, after speaking with four different businesses, I decided to go with Sunpower. The Sunpower team that gave me a presentation made me feel like they were true experts in the field and not just trying to "sell" me on a solar panel array. They gave me a detailed breakdown of how they sized my system based on my past consumption patterns and how it would continue to save me money in the future because utility rates almost never decrease. I have never had a sizable credit balance at the end of the year with the utility company in any of the past four years. Everything about this system is just right for me." - Claude P.
"After much consideration, we decided that switching to SunPower solar panels was the best course of action to take. Still, we do! We are a retired couple with a low electricity consumption; however, it is satisfying to know that we have contributed to the grid by selling our excess power. We are located at 42 degrees north latitude in southern Oregon. However, there is one catch: our solar installation stopped talking to SunPower after we replaced the router for our home WiFi. In order to fix the issue after the new router was installed, our solar installer had to communicate with us via email, phone, and an in-person visit. During one call, the SunPower representative alluded to "other" problems that hadn't been disclosed to me, and I became concerned. It wasn't the first time she'd heard of the issue, she added. We can only hope that SunPower is already hard at work on a solution. As of right now, there are no problems." - Joshua F.
"Going solar was a decision I made not for the financial benefits, but for the planet's sake. As of January 2021, my system was up and running, and I couldn't be happier with it. Not a thing. There are sporadic problems with the app, but they are minor. The system's ability to generate electricity is not always reflected in the app's calculations. In order to save money, I put in a 27-kilowatt system, which is more than enough for my needs, but I hope to buy an electric car in the coming year. The American Public Power Society (APS) will send me a check for the extra energy I generated in 2018. It makes sense to have solar in the Valley, as Phoenix is one of (if not the) cities with the most sunlight per year in the world. As a result, in conclusion, I think it was a fantastic option." - Glen D.
"Several other solar companies and installers had better deals, so I shopped around (SunRun, Con-Edison, and Posi-Gen to name a few). As a result of my research, I concluded that SunPower is the best option for us. The local SunPower dealer, SAVKAT, has been wonderful to work with. Everyone I've dealt with there, from Jay Buckland in sales to Joe Sullivan on installation to Sheri Baracliff, the project manager, has been friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable (even when I was being difficult). After a little over a month of use, the system is performing as expected or better. I was so pleased with SAVKAT/SunPower that I referred several of my friends and neighbors to them, and now my son and one of his friends are also happy SunPower customers." - Harvey V.
