I would never go with Barnes Solar. As an example, when they updated my service, they didn't bother to replace the flashing on the service panel at my workplace. They left the old, broken flashing in my 60-year-old home. The question is, Who does that?" Then when I called them on it, they provided me nothing but trouble and no satisfaction like admitting fault, replacing the item, and moving on. Is there any guarantee that it will stay waterproof for the next 25 years, the estimated lifespan of my roof? Not a fan here." - Elias F.
In 2021 and 2022, my solar panels from Barnes Solar did not generate any usable power for a total of six months and two months, respectively. Edison sent me a charge for $2,300. I let Barnes Solar know, but they flat-out refused to pay me back. But a technician came out a few days after I called and got the solar panels working again. In addition to the hefty monthly bills I've been getting from Edison for the last several months, I've also been warned that I'll receive yet another massive charge at the end of 2022. When I questioned them about it, they said it was because my solar panels weren't producing enough energy. A few days ago, I emailed Barnes Solar, but I haven't heard back from them yet. After many unsuccessful efforts to reach them via phone, someone finally answered and promised to get back to me within two hours to explain what had happened. However, no one from Barnes Solar ever called me back. Wish I had done more research and gone with a different company before working with Barnes Solar. - Tanner R.
Please don't waste your time or money with Barnes Solar; the service is terrible, and you'll end up with two bills because no one ever returns your calls. Also, don't put any stock in Paul", who seems nice at first but stops caring once he starts getting paid." - Cristian E.
My solar panels aren't producing enough power or kilowatts, but I can't get in touch with anyone to complain about it. I have called but they are not very helpful and now I can't get in touch with Miles either. I am being charged $500 a month in addition to the $196 I pay for the solar panels I bought. - George H.
The sub-panel keeps powering down and triggering an error message. Robert, the case manager, has been of no use to us despite our best efforts. It takes him weeks to respond to emails and he never returns phone calls. Extremely dissatisfied and annoyed with the whole organization. We've followed the technician's instructions and sent in the requested codes, but it hasn't helped us fix the problem. Even though my equipment is still covered by the manufacturer's warranty and has been paid for in full, I don't appear to be a high priority. They seem uninterested in assisting existing clients and focused only on attracting new ones. - Leonardo S.
To make room for a new roof, we had Barnes Solar take down and reinstall our solar panels. The level of communication was superb. The personnel arrived on time and were kind, discreet, and tidy. They worked wonderfully in tandem with our roofer. We had a few technical difficulties, and they were fixed right away. Barnes replaced our previous installer since our previous contractor pulled out of the area. Barnes Solar has made great efforts to earn our business. If I were still working in construction after 40 years, Barnes Solar would be one of the first companies I would contact. - Omar J.
It has been a pleasure working with Jake and Barnes Solar. It's not uncommon for people to feel overwhelmed by the solar installation procedure. If you aren't vigilant, you might fall victim to a scam that leaves you with a leaking roof, can't get your house sold, or costs you thousands of dollars more than it should. There are concerns with organizations that fail to respond to client complaints or that subcontract all work. After meeting with three different solar panel installation businesses, we settled on one we know will be there in a decade at the very least. Their costs are reasonable, and their assistance was superb. Jake was always available whenever we needed him, and his responses were usually prompt. I cannot recommend them enough if you are considering about switching to solar energy. The firm followed through on all of its promises. I'm relieved that we have that assurance since I'm sure we'll have questions down the road. - Mark K.
A brand new solar panel setup. We were given exactly what we were hoping for and anything more we could need or utilize without being oversold. The design was also top-notch. The crew was outstanding in every way. Highly organized, with regular updates on progress. In addition, they efficiently handled the necessary permits, and the information they gave facilitated the HOA's approval process. Strongly suggest using these. - Jorge L.
I saw the reviews on Yelp and decided to go with Barnes Solar because of them. Mike was a pleasure to deal with in the commercial realm, and he answered all of our inquiries thoroughly and promptly. Because of the dense forest around our home, we were unsure whether solar power was a viable option for us. Mike was upfront and unaggressive even if the results of the tests weren't what we'd hoped for. I'm quite pleased with how the installation went overall. Although our output dips somewhat in the winter, the surge in the spring and summer more than makes up for it and helps us keep our costs down. Everything about the production matches what Mike and his crew promised. One last thing about the honesty of this company. A worker accidentally severed our cable line during the installation. Barnes Solar was eager to foot the bill for the repairs and provide a hand in getting everything back in working order as quickly as possible. Stop looking for a solar energy provider now. You can trust these people. I appreciate it. - Conner T.
Thanks to a recommendation, we reached out to Barnes. This meant that our first point of contact in sales (Jake Cosmo) didn't have to exert any pressure. Jake provided a detailed design and cost estimate based on an analysis of our energy use. Peterson-Dean also submitted a proposal. Barnes was much cheaper and seemed to have an equivalent guarantee. The setup worked well. When there was a problem with the grounding cables, Jake sent Mike, the crew's foreman, to fix it. They had to cut a hole in the stucco wall to get to the ground, but they did a great job of concealing the flex cable and patching up the damage. One of the best features of our new solar system is that I can monitor its output in real-time online. Barnes Solar has my highest recommendation. - Nicolas O.
