"I'd been looking forward to going solar for years, and I spent a lot of time researching companies before choosing Michigan Solar Solutions. It was wrong to do that. I can say that their installation team does excellent work. Even the inspectors said this when they looked at their past jobs. The back office, on the other hand, is just the opposite, which is sad and has made the whole thing very frustrating. The worst part of the failure is that six panels were put in the wrong place because the teams didn't talk to each other well enough. I'm being charged just under $1,000 to fix it. Even worse, I can't even find out what the plan is to fix it. At some point, I'll have to contact their customer service team to get a response of any kind, which also happened during the project. That project has been going on for more than six months with no sign of ending. When I was accidentally added to a thread of emails in which the sales team was complaining about customers and insisting that they shouldn't be part of the planning and design process, it was clear that something was wrong. This lack of customer service showed up in many of my interactions with the team (they tried to talk me out of fixing the bad panel placement, charging me to fix their mistake, refused for weeks to make a change to the plan that would improve performance because it wasn't part of the original plan, and responses can take days, if they happen at all, among other things I'm sure I've forgotten). I already tell coworkers and friends to stay away from Michigan Solar Solutions, even though some of them had them on their shortlist for projects like mine. I can't suggest anyone else because I haven't worked with anyone else, but if I had to do it again, I'd choose someone else and tell you to do the same." - Christian J.
"I don't know much about the products or installation work of Michigan Solar Solutions. This review is based only on my experience with their service department. After having trouble getting in touch with me for almost a month, they were unable to give me a quote or do even the most basic maintenance on my ground-mounted PV system. (Combiner of arrays). Avoid the MSS service department to save yourself time, disappointment, and stress. They don't know how to communicate professionally or how to give good customer service. Not to mention a simple estimate for fixing a normal PV combiner." - Colton A.
"We decided to add a battery backup to our system this year. No one would touch a system they didn't set up, so we're back to MSS. We kind of knew what to expect from our first installation, but this one was MUCH worse. I pay half of this household's bills and live here, but they wouldn't talk to me or even acknowledge my worries. We needed credit for ALL the work my husband did and ALL the tools we had to buy for this 3-day installation. I don't need to say that I haven't seen a bill or heard from anyone at MSS. This is by far the worst company I've ever heard of or worked with, and I've had a lot of experience with contractors working on rental properties. It's such a big deal, and I'm legally responsible for half of it, but I never hear anything about it. Please ask me for specifics about all the problems we've had with this company so you know what you might face." - Roman T.
"I called for help with a project to replace my roof. I needed my system, which had been put in by someone else, to be taken off and then put back on. called again and again. When I finally got an answer, I was told that getting a quote would cost me $650, but I was never sure if that would be added to the total price or be part of it. I wouldn't know if they were good or not. I didn't like how they acted at all. They wouldn't be welcome near my house." - Axel D.
"They put the system in my house in the middle of June, but it didn't pass the DTE inspection in July, so it's been a few weeks. We keep trying to get them to fix the problem so we can FINALLY use the system, but they haven't replied since they took the full payment. During the project, it has been hard to get a timely response from them. We still haven't gotten anything..." - Brooks F.
"About four years ago, I had MSS provide a quote for a system at my company. In the end, I was hoping to get a VA payout. They kept my account active for many years, and this year we decided to cash out using an IRA distribution. As the array would have been located "Forward of the main structure," the township revoked the permit that had been approved for a ground mount. We were able to move the array to the roof with the help of MSS, who also provided expert advice (after a structural assessment). Two extra panels were included for better functionality and visual appeal. Our electric bill was cut by about 60% in October and November, long after the solar system's peak production months. Because of DTE's credit calculation methodology, we doubt we'll ever receive full credit for our products; however, the savings on our bill are much appreciated. The installation crew did an excellent job (32 panels and all associated hardware installed in 8 hours), and Dawn and Dave have been great to work with and keep us informed throughout the process. Contact MSS if you are even thinking about going solar." - Ryan M.
"After three and a half years of use, I can say without reservation that my system continues to impress. Even though I have no idea how Consumers calculates the bill, my electric bill has never been more than $10, and I have always had a sizable credit on my bill. As 2020's winter approaches, I will have a credit of $1,000 towards my electric bill. Thanks to MSS, Consumers replaced the transformer supplying power to my home after it was discovered that I had an electrical problem during the installation process. Solar panels are a great investment, and MSS comes highly recommended." - Angel B.
"In 2018, our 10-kilowatt solar array was installed by MI Solar Solutions. did an excellent job and were flexible with our many requests for this project (2 arrays, 2 inverters). When one of our optimizers developed a problem, MSS figured out the cause using our data, ordered the necessary replacement parts and handled the service without our intervention. In a year or two, I plan to hire them again for another project." - Cooper O.
"We decided to build a solar panel installation in December. Since January 1st, our local energy cooperative changed its net-metering policy, we needed to do this before the year ended. Our roof had six inches of snow on it, and the poor Michigan Solar Solutions workers had to risk gusts of up to 20 mph to remove it. Their efforts paid off, as we were able to make our deadline and the inspectors gave their approval right away. A standing ovation is given to the installers, the PM, and the sales team. Our most recent June bill came in at $33.12." - Waylon W.
"Michigan Solar Solutions provided the best customer support! They listened to what the problem was and sent a technician to troubleshoot in as little as two days, even though they didn't have time to do the initial installation work. My system was installed by Power Home Solar & Roofing, but whenever I had a problem, they were less responsive. Michigan Solar Solutions stepped in and knocked out a competitor. The engineers fixed the problem with my system and also connected my system to the monitoring portal as it should have been done over two years ago when it was originally installed by another company. I highly recommend working with the Michigan Solar Solutions team!!! I am so happy I found them and look forward to continuing to work with them in the future." - Kai T.
