"I started working with New England Clean Energy in July 2020, and they gave me permission to use electricity in February 2021. The team came in October to do the first installation. They didn't measure the roof, so they didn't know if they could fit another solar panel. After the installation, National Grid came to check it out in November. They found that the way the meter was hooked up was wrong. After changing how the meter was connected, National Grid came back to look again in December and found another problem with how the meter was set up. Then, when National Grid came back to check in January, they had put the wrong names on the meters. Then, they tried to change the labels and send a review, but it didn't work, so they had to send someone else out. I was finally given the all-clear in February. During the fight with National Grid, New England Clean Energy didn't seem to know what was going on or why National Grid wouldn't let this installation go through. Between the mistake I made with the stickers and the meter I set up to see how much power I was losing because of New England Clean Energy's mistakes, I lost a lot of power. I figured out that it would cost about $150, so I asked New England Clean Energy to pay me that amount. They said they would pay that amount, but it has been two months and they have stopped talking to me. I wouldn't hire them again, and it doesn't look like they know how to do an install in RI the right way." - Ethan K.
"In July, a good estimate was the first step in the process. It took two months to find time to install the panels. It took two days to set up. After the first day, the contractors turned off the power and didn't turn it back on like they were supposed to. We didn't know if it was safe to turn it back on. Then we had to wait... There was supposed to be a building inspection in November, but some engineering documents were lost. There didn't seem to be enough hurry to get the process going. The inspection of the electricity did not happen until the end of January. It turned out that the wi-fi communicator had to be installed a second time through the right electrical box. Another problem happened when their engineering partner didn't give the right paperwork for the building inspection (which was supposed to take place in early November). It took the city a few weeks to send me the final document, and I had to contact the city myself. I thought they would take care of it without my help. The utility company then said that the signs on the system were not good enough, so they had to order and install new signs, which slowed down the process. We signed a contract with them that said the work would be done in six months, but it wasn't. About 9 months went by. The COVID-19 situation may have made the work take longer, but that was 2 months after they said the work would be done. So, I'm not sure if this was an isolated incident for this company, but I still wanted to share my experience. I plan to update this if more work needs to be done in the future." - Lewis W.
"I had a bad experience with this company. It looks like I made a bad investment. I spent $4,000 on a new system, had it set up, and it worked great. Then I decided I wanted to add more properties to my system, so I called and paid another $4,000 to put a system at another property. I waited for months, but they couldn't find anyone to come and put the addition in (due to Covidiocy ). So I canceled the order, and it took me weeks of arguing with them to get a refund for the system they never came to install. Everything worked well until I got a new modem. Then I couldn't connect half of my cameras. No one could be sent to my house (again, because of confidentiality), and it seems that no one can help you connect cameras over the phone. So I guess it's not a good idea to trust the security of my home to a company that doesn't have a customer service team for when their products break. Also, their products can't be used with any other systems, and they don't buy back equipment, so if you decide to stop using them, you'll lose all of your money." - Connor N.
"New England Clean Energy quoted $22,000 more than the other two solar companies for 35 LG370w panels with micro inverters, so we didn't hire them. During our phone consult, the company founder was friendly and knowledgeable, but his quote shocked us. New England Clean Energy may be good, but there are other companies (like SunBug Solar, which we hired for our last solar job in 2012 and loved) that do great work and are cheaper. Get several quotes before hiring New England Clean Energy. The company founder was also dismissive of other companies. When we told him we were going with another company that quoted $20,000 less, he said it must be a new small or one-man shop. (The 29-year-old company we chose comes highly recommended.) ." - Antonio K.
"Clean Energy New England will drain you dry. It is the worst company I've ever dealt with, and its customer service is the worst I've ever seen. From the salesman who wouldn't take no for an answer and me, a recovering idiot sucker, it didn't take long for him to scam me out of $3000 and then $30 a month after that. The salesman told me that I could move once a year and take the equipment with me and have it set up for free. I could give it to another person. Both are false. I'm sure that Vivint is just as bad as the thieves they say they're protecting me from. I'm moving, and my new landlord doesn't want the service set up there, so I asked New England Clean Energy if they could just take it out and I could keep it or sell it. They want $150 to get it out of there. Now comes the strangest part. After living there for a month or two, I went on a trip and left the front door open by accident. When the wind blew, the door opened and the alarm went off, but no one ever came to check on me. They called me, but I didn't answer, so they didn't send anyone to help me. They wanted a call from the home phone or something silly. So I could have been lying there clinging to life and bleeding to death, and all the money I spent on security would have been for nothing. Trust me, it might seem like a good idea right now, but you'll kick yourself later." - Julian L.
"I chose them after seeing them mentioned in YouTube videos of homeowners talking about solar in general and saying, "Oh, and by the way, we are really happy with New England Clean Energy." Ours were great too. Ashland, Massachusetts is our system. 24 panels each have an inverter. We own the system and expect breakeven in 8 years (tax incentives help a lot). That's a lot of free electricity given the system's 25-year lifespan. The company correctly predicted a long project due to the many small steps in this process. Installing electric boxes, conduits, and meters takes hours. Installing the panels takes two days. Paperwork, permits, inspections, and startup approvals follow. We also need to repair our roof and remove some trees. Solar panels aren't heavy, but we needed a new roof, so we added them. Inverters and electronics from Enphase (panels by an equally reputable manufacturer). The system has been running since October. enough to verify its power output. Net metering gives us Eversource credits if we generate more electricity than we use. This compensates for months when we generate less electricity than we use. Eversource credits our bill monthly after reading our meter (or used). Daily changes don't matter. To avoid shocking line workers, inverters turn off when grid power fails. Every net-metered system works this way. The truck system didn't fit because our house was smaller than expected. Two panels could be removed or placed on a poorer surface. However, the company offered a discount to ease our concerns. Well done! New England Clean Energy set up a reliable system. They were friendly and helpful throughout. I endorse this company." - Ramon G.
"We had a great time working with New England Clean Energy, from sales and proposals to installation and project management as a whole. Their team quickly answered our questions and gave us everything we needed at every stage of the project. At one point, the equipment changed, but they were able to offer something similar that kept the project going. We were also happy because they took care of everything for our rooftop panels in the RI REF program. New England Clean Energy is a great choice!" - Miles L.
"My system was installed in 2019, and you can see the white cape with panels on the garage in Bolton on their website. I know a good installation when I see one, and theirs was the best I've ever seen. I also liked that the installers and staff were friendly and knew what they were doing. I also liked how quickly they answered my questions. I only had one problem: the inverter broke, which wasn't their fault, and I got a new one right away because of the warranty. In 2022, my system gave me 83% of the energy I needed, and thanks to my SMART incentive, I made almost $400! I'd recommend this installer to anyone." - Liam M.
"I wanted to let you know how happy I am with the installation team that has been at our house this week. They were friendly, helpful, and good at what they did. Even though they worked hard, they always had time to answer my questions about how the system worked. They did a great job of adding the different parts (combiner, shut-offs, conduit, etc.) in a way that didn't change the spacing or visibility too much. They cleaned up every day and put things back together. This is very helpful for me because I pay a lot of attention to details. So, thank you for sending your "A" team to our house. With such a big investment, it really makes a difference." - Nathaniel C.
"I don't write reviews for any product or service until I have enough proof that the purchase will or won't live up to my hopes. Still, I would give the sales and installation team that put a 12.5 kWh system on my roof high marks and recommend them. The sales presentation wasn't a hard sell; it was meant to teach. My wife and I had no trouble understanding what was being said. With an all-electric home, it was important to make sure the system was the right size and looked good if we wanted green, cost-effective energy. Our sales rep, Milton, answered all of our questions and put our minds at ease whenever we were worried. From sale to installation, the time frame was right on, and NECE representatives were knowledgeable and easy to talk to throughout the process. Since March 15, 2019, when our system went live, nothing has gone wrong. Keep in mind that NECE also made follow-up contacts, which is an important point. This wasn't just a one-time sale and "see you later." New England Clean Energy has been one of the most professional companies to sell and fix things at my house. I'd also tell my family and friends to use them. As a word of warning, cost, and quality go hand in hand with any product you buy. Solar systems are the same as any other." - Blake F.
