"We have had two photovoltaic (PV) installations and two solar water heater (SWH) installations done by AE (Alternate Energy). Before we had them install our SWH in 5/2021, they had a good reputation. Our PV system was checked by AE after we contacted them about a significant increase in our power bill and found to be OK. It turned out that the SWH AE installed was not in the best spot on our roof, therefore our water heater ran constantly without getting hot enough to do its job. Because of this, our power bill soared to over $500 per month for over three. AE sent a technician to inspect our SWH panels, who discovered that they were installed sideways. AE arrived and moved the panels, but they have not apologized, admitted fault, or compensated me for the extra electricity bills I was forced to foot. There has been no response from anybody at AE despite my several emails (to Yuko Ahina) and phone calls. Another municipal permit for a SWH that was supposed to be placed in November 2017 but was never installed is also still active as of April 2020." - Everett

"We went through three "different" salesmen and three "different" bids from Alternate Energy companies before deciding on a 29-panel PV system for our brand new house seven years ago. Unfortunately, we did not get any instructions or customer assistance from Alternate Energy about the PV System after the builder was completed with the house, our Closing, and our move-in. The online Envoy performance reporting system was never downloaded and is now overwhelmed with data, making it broken and requiring us to replace it at our own expense after seven years. If Alternate Energy had taken the time to inspect the original setup and/or the System's actual performance, it would have discovered the issue "before" anything needed to be changed. With the exception of the Envoy issue, the PV System has been performing well. The Field and Technical teams are highly skilled and responsive. From what we have seen, however, the Owner, Sales team, Management, and Administration all lack significant amounts of customer empathy and/or any enthusiasm in maintaining service for existing customers." - Robert

"Almost two years ago, in January 2017, our neighbor hired Alternate Energy Inc. to install solar panels on his property. Our front yard was damaged, so they wanted to dig a 6-inch hole through it and promised to fix it. We had just grated the yard, done some landscaping, and planted sod. No grass has grown in the 2-by-30-foot trench line, and there are several tiny boulders and a large mound of soil adjacent to the plywood-covered hole that remain today. We have asked you to correct it, but instead you have lied to us about who is to blame and the current state of the project. The bottom line is that you have shown a complete lack of ethics in business." - Sam

"Buyers, both current and prospective, beware! They are quick to collect your money, but they will not even return your calls if there is an issue. There have been 5 calls made following the discovery of the inoperative panels. Zero return phone calls. Nice secretaries will readily acknowledge that they struggle to get a response from upper management. If you want PV and solar, go elsewhere and save yourself the trouble." - Byron

"The paperwork processing is fast yet shoddy. The plans are continuously changing since the office workers do not understand how the field workers conduct the task. The personnel in the field are competent, but they care solely about getting the work done and leaving. It will cost you to get help later on. There are a few standouts, but on the whole, the installation crew does not function as a unified one. Owner response 05/09 I have no problems collaborating with Trevor, and I am familiar with the ins and outs of the internet infrastructure. For transparency's sake, I will mention that we do not provide every possible service after installation. Trevor is one of the best techs I have ever worked with; he has been really useful, quick to respond, and educated." - Eric

"Recommendations for Cory! He has worked very hard for us and deserves particular recognition for repairing our air conditioners. Cory is a fantastic representative of Alternate Energy. He is polite, pleasant, and quite knowledgeable, and he helped us devise a strategy for controlling our HVAC units and other devices linked to your solar panels. Cory meticulously disassembled the devices, diagnosed the flaws, and implemented the necessary fixes. A few months ago, we were lucky enough to have Cory repair the first unit when it had a water leak. Because of his expertise, thoughtfulness, and friendliness, I begged Cory to return and assist us once again. On Friday, he effectively identified the faults with both of these machines. I would love it if you would consider him for internal promotions in the future since he is so kind, courteous, knowledgeable, and capable. When I think of your organization, its goods, and the personal care and professionalism of its services, Cory is the person who comes to mind." - Calvin

When we needed to add battery backup capabilities to our existing system, we phoned and spoke with Roy Skaggs, who took care of us then and continues to do so now. We have always had prompt, polite, and clean service from the team that performed our installations. Our PV system has beyond our expectations, and we have no reservations in recommending Alternate Energy to our closest friends and family. "The cost of electricity is astronomical. Just like holy crap. Since we have two pets, we leave the air conditioning on all the time, leading to a bill of more than $400 in the summer. After five years as homeowners, we finally investigated the possibility of installing solar panels after hearing from a friend who had just done so. We did not do any comparison shopping, to be quite honest. I decided to send him a text since my buddy used Alternate Energy and spoke very highly of the person he dealt with there. In walks RADFORD. Energy Substitutes GODSEND. Let me explain... some folks really do what they are paid to do. Certain individuals even take the initiative to do so. He really does go above and above. Within an hour, I had a response to my SMS. Within a few days, I had recommendations in response to his straightforward inquiries (what is our bill like, do you have a copy?). I tend to be someone who has many inquiries. He was really accommodating and answered all of their questions. We scheduled a meeting for him to come over and go through the possibilities and pros and disadvantages of the two ideas (panels without a battery vs panels with a battery). I have to tell you, I am completely impressed by this man and his superb customer service. An appointment for a roof inspection was scheduled, and we were informed of our financing choices and any state and federal tax credits (which is why you receive PV too!). After the loan was settled, the rest of the plan came into place without a hitch. I will be honest and say that the procedure is a little tedious, but that is just because you have to wait for HECO to complete this and that, and our association requires documentation, too. Nevertheless, he and his staff handled everything for us. The crew who put up the panels was kind, competent, and quick. He dropped over to see how things were going with the installation and to field any more queries we may have. Because this is such a lengthy procedure, I truly enjoyed the many updates I got on its progress. A year and a half later, my husband realized that our PV box was not showcasing our panels properly. After my call, the office sent a technician to see what was wrong. My dad suggested I contact Radford through text or email, so I did; I received a call within the hour and helpful text messages to guide me through the process; in the end, the problem was covered under warranty, and a technician came out to replace it within the week. He was helpful throughout, and he even checked in with me afterward. Wow, talk about UNBREAKABLE DEDICATION TO CUSTOMER SATISFACTION! I would strongly suggest you contact Alternate Energy and specifically ask for Radford if you are interested in purchasing solar panels. My boss and a coworker who are CRNAs both bought solar panels from AE and suggested him to a friend who also got solar panels from AE, who in turn recommended him to us, therefore we got solar panels from AE and I also strongly recommend him. He is an addition to the organization since he is knowledgable, courteous, and, if you can not tell from my rating, he has excellent customer service abilities. Get PV and cut your HECO expense in half! Running the air conditioner around the clock in the summer resulted in a charge of little over $100. Radford, you rock, so thank you very much." - Darci

"Last year, we had Alternate Energy install a PV system and air conditioning in my home office. Their expertise and dedication to satisfying customers left an indelible impression. They helped us figure out how large of a system we needed and how to get our garage roof ready for the panels. In order to replace our roof this year, we had to relocate our cable. Before we could construct the new roof, we needed AE's permission to relocate our cable. When we contacted, we realized that we had forgotten to arrange their work, but they were able to come to our home within two days. That is how dedicated they were to helping others." - Lum
